WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Central Oklahoma men’s basketball team had its lowest point total of the season, and fell to Fort Hays State 80-64 in the first round of the NCAA Division II basketball tournament on Saturday.
Central Oklahoma entered the game averaging 89.6 points per game, but the Bronchos hit just 31 percent of their shots. UCO, which averaged 10 3-pointers per game coming into the contest, failed to hit long range shots and finished the game with a 3-of-19 performance from behind the arc.
Dauntae Williams led the Bronchos with 19 points and Chris Rhymes added 15.
UCO led by five with just under four minutes left before the break, but the Tigers finished the half on a 15-4 run and went into halftime with a 38-32 lead.
After FHSU extended its lead to double digits in the second half, UCO was able to cut the lead to seven twice, the final time at 62-55 with 6:40 to play. The deficit was too much for the Bronchos to overcome, though, and they came up short.
UCO finishes its season with a record of 22-7.
