Wide receiver Trey Metoyer verbally
committed to Oklahoma
this weekend. He becomes the Sooners seventh commitment for the class of
2011.
“I just wanted to hurry up and commit and get it over with,” Metoyer said. “[OU
receivers coach] Jay Norvell has been to two or three of my basketball games
and OU was one of my favorites since my sophomore year.”
Even though he pulled the trigger quickly, the Whitehouse, Texas resident is
comfortable with his choice.
“I made the right decision,” Metoyer said. “Most of my family, friends and
coaches said I made right decision.”
Metoyer had offers from Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Arizona, LSU and
Mississippi. But there was one factor that put the Sooners over the top.
“Coach Norvell said he’s not going to redshirt me,” Metoyer said. “At first I
was looking at LSU. They had the number one receiver in the nation, but he only
caught 12 balls. I need the ball. That’s
an opportunity for me to come in and earn my spot.”
Metoyer also stated that the early decision gives him a chance to concentrate on
his academics. He took his SAT test Saturday morning and said he felt he did
well but, “the math questions were hard.”
